In September 2017 LMS kicked off our first official STEM elective course. Working with a tight budget, students have been engineering using paper towel and toilet paper rolls, spaghetti, toothpicks, string, and cardboard boxes donated by fellow educators and friends or purchased by Mrs. Salvati. In September, our second level STEM course, STEMSquared, will kick off and students will have the opportunity to take what they have learned in Intro To STEM and take it to the next level, but what is the next level? Enter the Dremel DigiLab 3D20 3D printer. The DigiLAB 3D printer will enable students to fully implement the engineering design process by creating prototypes which solve real-world problems. Please help us take our class to the next level!
My Project
Students in Intro to STEM use the Four C’s: Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking skills to accomplish a variety of engineering tasks. They follow the engineering design process as they work in teams to solve problems creatively. In September 2018 we will have STEM Squared, our second level STEM course. A 3D printer would enable students to see their blueprints come to life as they create solutions to problems dealing with such subjects as the human water cycle and biomedical engineering, to name a few. Students would be able to create actual 3D prototypes of their ideas that they could present to the class, and possibly influential community members as well. Students would be able to fully immerse themselves in their projects and make connections to the real-world.
