My Students
As a diverse group of students in NYC my students have many different strategies to solve everyday problems; they use their different backgrounds to help them come together as a community to work together. Trying to teach technology to students of all grades is the hope as previously I only taught 2-5 grades but now want to include the Kindergarten and first grades as well; this will not only reach the younger students earlier but also better prepare them when they enter my computer lab as they grow older.
My Project
This project will help develop a maker space here at my school and bring STEM to the Kindergarten and First graders.
Currently, only the second through fifth graders have technology in my lab so some of these kits, like the Simple machines Activity Lab, will allow, not only my upper graders to explore with STEM, but also the K-1 students in the school.
At the same time, the Global Challenges STEM kits will challenge the upper graders to problem-solve real world issues that many people face worldwide.
All of these kits will help start the creation of the makerspace at my school and will benefit the students immeasurably by helping them to explore, problem-solve, and create all types of STEM projects.
