Help me give my students the chance to create, build, and engineer their ideas using Legos, K'nex, and Play-doh before they transfer their ideas to programs on the computer.
I teach nearly 400 students in grades K through 5 in Michigan. The students and staff work hard at striving for excellence each and everyday no matter what experiences may have happened to them before they entered school. Our students often struggle for basic needs and structure as our building is nearly 100 percent Title 1 population. They are bright, creative students who love to explore and learn by using the Internet, reading books, and while using their hands to create. I am blessed to be their media teacher and am responsible for teaching library skills as well as technology standards. I feel in my first two years in this position students have had wonderful experiences learning and creating projects using computers. Also, my students have experienced and can identify many genres of books. I would like to extend their hands-on experiences by incorporating learning stations into their media visits. You can help fund the needed materials for these stations such as STEM kits, building blocks, Play-Doh, and Legos. Through participation in these learning stations, my students can aquire the cooperation, critical thinking, and social skills they need for life.
My Project
When my students visit the media center they read and listen to exceptional stories and explore a wide variety of online websites and resources. They also use technology tools on computers and iPads to create projects and assignments.
You can help add a layer of learning to my media classes by funding our media center with Legos, K'nex, Magnetic Tiles, and Playdoh.
Hands on learning stations will be possible with these items and students will then have a springboard for creative ideas to transfer to writing, drawing, and coding programs we use online.
