My Project

I teach a silly and sweet group of 28 Kindergarten students at a small public elementary school in Colorado. My students are kind, loving, and creative. I have a diverse classroom of students, including recent refugees and students with special needs. Play is the common denominator and is something that all students can engage in and learn from, regardless of language or academic level.

I believe in a play-based approach to learning, and my goal is to provide rich, engaging opportunities for my Kindergarteners to learn all subjects (including science) through play!

My students have overwhelmingly expressed interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.) I also teach two science units each year focusing on trees and the environment. My students have become passionate about taking care of our Earth. I want to foster my students' excitement for learning about STEM during our Purposeful Play time. We are requesting a variety of magnet tile building kits to help kids explore, create, and collaborate!

My Kindergarteners will have opportunities to follow step-by-step instructions to build specific structures in addition to innovating and bringing their own unique ideas to life! Sometimes their trials will result in success, other times in error. In addition to academic skills, this will also lead my students to develop perseverance and problem-solving skills. My students will treasure these materials and use them to enrich their educational experience. Thank you for considering our project!
