My students need these materials (littleBits, sphero robots balls, and Ozobot Coding Robot) to help get them ready for the 21st Century jobs that will be available to them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher from a middle class Urban school district in Northeastern PA., 75% of our students come from disadvantaged or single parent families. Many students lack real world experiences that many professionals take for granted. All students in my district receive free breakfast and lunch.
Most of my students have had little to no STEM experience.
Allowing students to be more creative and use their imagination will help to jumpstart their interest in many science fields. Let’s get started!
My Project
By having these materials, my students will be able to do many STEM action cities, as well as create, code, and collaborate! They need these skills to be part of the workforce of the future. There are so many STEM related jobs out there today, that didn't exist when I was a kid, and I want my students to be ready for them. The items I would like are the following. Ozobot robots, that can be coded to follow paths made by the students. We will use these in our class to help get us started with basic coding. They will also be able to be used in our cardboard STEM arcade game project. Makeymakey sets, that allow students to turn everyday items into keypads. We will use them to make cardboard arcade games come to life. Also, Littlebits magnetic circuits, to help create hundreds of different items, and learn about circuitry. We will use these to help with our unit on electricity and circuits, to give the kids hands on experience. Lastly, Sphero mini’s, which are robots that they can allow students to practice using their coding skills. They can be used to help the kids get used to using coding in the classroom, as well as for some experiments on speed and velocity. These materials will get them started coding, and creating their own projects. STEM is a very important part of education right now, and I want my class to be at the forefront of what's to come. With all the pressure put on them to pass standardized tests, it's time they are allowed to be creative and use their imagination!
