My Students
Coming from a school district that was shut down by the state for unjust education, my students have faced many obstacles the average 50-year-old has never faced. They come to school to learn despite the lack of stability at home. They are eager mathematicians and soaring scientists.
My students are inner-city children, striving for the success many have said they will never be able to achieve.
I have future presidents, lawyers, doctors, and cosmetologists who look fear and opposition in the eyes and laugh. They are inquisitive, skeptical, hardworking and humorous second graders. The district that previously served these children stole their educational shine. We are trying to restore the years of damage brought upon these children. I will admit that I have non-readers and kindergarten level readers in my second grade classroom, but I also have eager, education-seeking mathematicians who will run this world like nobody's business. Have you ever heard of children asking for more homework? I hadn't either, until I met this group of children. The only groans I've ever heard about homework is when I didn't give them homework. My group of all-stars would benefit from your sponsorship and will truly appreciate the support of all stakeholders in their education.
My Project
My students need an iPad, math stations, math and science books, and other supplies to cement objectives through independent manipulation. My graduating class of 2025 will use these materials to advance their mathematical and science skills and improve cross-curriculum knowledge. The iPad will be used to integrate technology into the classroom and make learning more fun for them! The many science and math books and stations will be used to gain real world knowledge of math and science skills and how things evolve and change. They will also be used as a way for our students to take charge over their own learning and success. Nothing is more special than walking into a room and having every child knee-deep in learning! With these stations, books and technology, that will be completely attainable.
This project is so important because, at young ages, students innately have a love for math, numbers, inquiry and unknowns.
I believe that with access to these materials, I will deepen the love my students have and send them into the future with a continued interest in these highly critical fields. I want my kids to have the chance to compete academically with anyone. I need my kids to want to achieve and to know that there are people out there rooting for their success!
