Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I serve Gifted and Talented students in a highly diverse, low-income district. The students come from many different backgrounds and a majority of our students speak a second language. Our students come from supportive families who want the best for their kids but often do not have the resources they need to assist them. These students are focused and excited to learn.
Gifted students are tomorrow's leaders, inventors, problem-solvers and creators!
Providing them with opportunities to think critically and collaborate is essential for their success while providing them more opportunities to be more college and career ready!
My Project
All students in our building have the opportunity to engage in STEM projects in my gifted classroom. This is over 800 students who have the opportunity to work through inquiry enrichment activities under my supervision. My classroom houses several courses and activities that the supplies will support. The batteries, switches, circuitry equipment and motos will help students learn about parallel circuits in STEM class. They will utilize circuits to create mini-robots, wearable light-up art, and work to wire projects with lighting. The Lego supplies will assist students with stop motion stations, Rube-Goldberg creations, and lego design challenges. The magnetic manikins will be used for stop motion and my photography courses so that students can practice making movies and shooting in the manual setting on our class camera. The Bloxels equipment teaches students to design their own computer games through entry-level computer programming and graphic design. The silicone mats are for our design station. Students use 3d pens will allow students to design prototypes in 3d and the silicone mats will help protect our equipment so that they last longer. A classroom Apple TV will promote student collaboration as they document their findings and present their finalized projects to the class through our class projector. These supplies will transform our maker area into a creative, collaborative area where students are actively engaged in various projects they are passionate about.
