This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a Title I school that serves the children on Hilton Head Island. My second grade students enjoy working with manipulatives each morning before Morning Meeting.

Soft starts are a way for students to come in and get mentally ready for the day.

STEM is the perfect way to do this. It naturally gets students thinking critically and creatively which puts them in the right mindset to get the day off to a great start. A variety of open-ended materials encourages collaboration and is a great way to extend learning so kids can show what they know.

Soft starts also allow for students to practice social skills while sharing materials, offering ideas and problem solving.
