Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a high school where all of the students are amazing! I have a range of 9th through 12th grade students. Teaching them is my reason for getting out of bed and starting the day enthused and ready to go. When I see my kids every morning, it is an amazing feeling to see them walk onto campus and just be happy to be at school.
Most look to our district to provide them with their meals (they receive free breakfast, lunch, and dinner) as well as their tech, internet access, and even social guidance, as their parents usually work full time and they can sometimes be left alone when they're at home.
My students are the best part of my life. I would like to return the favor of the joy they give me in teaching them by providing them with a learning experience that is both safe, comfortable and makes them even more eager to become lifelong learners.
My Project
STEM integration is not only important for high school students to explore, but it is now an essential part of the academic experience. Here in our school district, we provide an extensive education in which students graduate from our schools college and career ready. In particular, my class focuses on having students use technology on a daily basis.
Modern technology-related careers require skills such as critical thinking, the ability to problem solve and use inquiry skills, creativity, data driven decision making and argumentation.
This is where my project idea comes in.
Research states that students learn best when they are intrinsically motivated and when they are given the opportunity for hands-on experience in learning. In other words, students acquire more knowledge when they are engaging in something that is fun and interesting to them, something that provokes curiosity and allows them to learn through “doing.”
A 3D virtual reality learning system for my students would be an asset to our classroom.
I would like to request a virtual reality headset with a battery and a case. The headset system has a cross-platform for PC and Chromebook integration, and it includes applications that students can use to explore careers, training, and go on virtual field trips. There is also an interactive whiteboard built into the system for students to brainstorm as they go.
In addition, I would like to request some needle felting kits for student prizes as incentives for learning, such as during our Kahoot! Competitions. As always, thank you so much for this opportunity. It is always immensely appreciated.
