My fourth graders want to be winners in life. They are determined to beat the odds stacked up against them! They are students at a high needs K-5 school in North Philadelphia. With 100% free breakfast and lunch, my students deserve a quality education. Many students have experienced setbacks and trauma but need to feel as if their life matters. They need to know that when they walk into my classroom that it is a safe, nurturing, and loving environment. It is a special place for them to learn and receive an excellent education.
The EiE Kit Bundles provides an opportunity for my students to get exposure to inquiry-based STEM curriculum. Often times, the lack of science instruction or materials will often put students at a disadvantage for future opportunities and preparedness for standardized testing. I want to use the kits to engage with families in another setting outside the classroom to make a positive impact. Students collaborating, using higher or thinking skills, and reasoning will empower them to have a voice and celebrate their learning. When I told my students that I was creating this project they were so excited! I believe STEM is the future! It's my desire to provide access whenever possible.
