Science should be learned through hands on activities and investigations. My students have a strong desire to learn and experience the thrill of science inquiry. Providing them with tools and materials that they can explore and manipulate will help their scientific knowledge grow.
Our classroom consists of 28 energetic students who greatly enjoy hands on learning opportunities.
Our school is a minority majority school with a high ELL population, 91% free/reduced lunch and over 12 languages spoken. This class is very eager to learn and grow but desire new, real world opportunities that "make sense" in their lives.
My Project
The science tools and materials requested will help us build our scientific knowledge and understanding on the topics of force and motion, properties of matter and learning labs. The class will be able to participate in whole class activities and in centers based experiences. They will be able to have the materials to manipulate, touch, share and experience. Through these opportunities the class will gain engineering experience, chances to make observations and opportunities for investigations in groups, partners and individually. This is an opportunity to build our classroom materials while helping us learn and grow why we become classroom scientists!
Scientific tools and materials are not readily available in our classroom.
Our 5th graders will have access to new, interesting and engaging materials that will help our scientific skills and strategies grow and grow and grow. The students will learn in real meaningful ways that they are unable to experience today. These materials are needed, important and effective in building knowledge.
