My Project

The start of each school year always brings new challenges and the need for new materials. Each year, my kindergarten class always has students who have never been in a structured school setting before. Having the appropriate materials is crucial to setting our students up for lifelong success and learning from such an early age.

This year, I'd like to start the year off by providing some hands-on student-led STEM activities to help build problem-solving skills, peer communication skills, fine motor skills, and a foundation for STEM/STEAM.

We will start by exploring the Lakeshore STEM kits. Then, we will use our white bags to take home and collect items that students think will sink/float or that students think are/aren't magnetic. Over a few weeks, our class will use those bags and explore whether their household items sink, float, or are magnetic. We will record our findings in a science journal that will be kept in our new silver science folders.

My hope is to start a lifelong love of exploration and STEM.
