Help me give my students the STEM tools they need to inspire a love of learning about science, engineering and math. with these resources, I can offer my students an environment rife for fostering excellence.
I have the best students a teacher could possibly hope to have. My classroom, nestled on the interior of our building at an relatively new International School in Utah, is filled with the most culturally diverse students in the state. The countries represented in my class include: USA, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, South Africa, Kenya, China and Japan. Our Lower Elementary is montessori-based, and my class is comprised of an almost equal number of 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. Not only is this group culturally diverse, they are also socio-economically diverse, and students come to school from every corner of the Salt Lake Valley.
Teaching to this group of varied learners is difficult, and often requires me to draft three lesson plans for every subject.
With such enormous responsibility, it is easy to be swallowed up by the minute busy work and unavoidable troubleshooting that naturally occurs in a class. Paramount to my responsibilities as the teacher for these students is my role in inciting inspiration amongst them. The desire and drive to learn, and the process of developing a genuine passion for learning is rooted in inspiration.
My Project
My students desire real-world applications to augment their learning. As a department, our objective is to direct the lower elementary school to construct a hybrid program with project-based learning activities to stimulate the minds of our lower elementary students. This kit, chalk-full of STEM resources and activities, is the perfect set to launch our project-based learning format and propel these kids forward. Aspiring engineers, architects, chemists and mathematicians alike, the STEM resources has something for every student, and therefore also fulfills the need for tools that cater to a differentiated classroom.
