This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Pre-K students come from many different places around the world and there home environments differ greatly. Some children are new to the country and have nothing and have been through a great deal in their 4 years of life. The one thing all of my children have in common is that they love to play.
My students love to explore, take things apart and build them again.
With these open ended materials my children will have opportunities to be creative, practice trial and error, and engineer amazing things while having fun. They will learn about balance while playing with balancing stones, how things work by snapping pieces together with construction sets, learn about simple machines and how they work, put gears into motion and much more all while having fun. The children will be able to use the hands on materials to gain knowledge of how to make something stick, lift, pull, balance and use their imaginations while developing math and science skills.
These materials tie into two of the units of study in our Pk curriculum: buildings and wheels. They will make a great addition to our stem centers where children spend a great deal of their time experimenting. Now matter how much prior knowledge or exposure a child has these materials will foster learning while keeping the children engaged, having fun and learning!
