Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In Kindergarten at Gowan Science Academy you will find students fully engaged in hands-on activities that activate the mind. As a school we use STEM to drive our students, as a new teacher I want my students to move mountains, but to get them on their way we need materials to engage their thinking.
I work with 29 unique, inspiring young students.
These students learn through various styles, but one thing they have in common is their desire to get hands-on. We learn at a S.T.E.M school in a town bordering Mexico so a high population of the students are English Language Learners. Our school has an amazing staff that is motivated to teach and goes above and beyond for each student. The parents and the students are motivated to learn and grow.
My Project
With these magnetic pieces students will be able to build towers, bridges, and other structures to help learn about engineering. Another way that the resources will be used is for building 2D and 3D shapes to help students learn about the attributes of different shapes. Students can work with partners, in small groups or on their own, spiting the 42 pieces.
Albert Einstein said "Play is the highest form of research" and I believe that my students will benefit from being able to "play" or construct with the pieces in the magnet kits.
They will get hands-on math and engineering experiences. We could even learn the science of magnets during our pushes and pulls unit.
