This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Please help me infuse my English and history classes with STEM and STEAM activities! I am a strong advocate for cross curricular integration, and I believe that students are more engaged when they have access to hands-on activities.

Students benefit from STEM and STEAM projects in many ways, including developing fine motor skills, understanding how concepts are applied, engaging with higher order learning, developing artistic capabilities, and problem-solving methods.

I believe that every student should have access to the necessary tools that make learning more engaging and fun. When a student is enjoying what they do, their performance is indicative and their retention increases.

The paints will be used to add color and life to the student projects such as salt dough geography dioramas, the styrofoam cups will be used to build 5-6ft tall 3D pyramid replicas, and the elastic string will be used to make Egyptian pharaoh masks in class. Colored pencils and markers are vital to the artistic process for students and will allow the students to add vibrancy and individuality to their work. The balloons and starch will be used to make paper mache Greek vases, the clay will be used to make replica Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets, and the paper bags, wax paper, and glue will be used to make our own "papyrus" paper. Construction paper will be used as a resource that they can utilize and add to their projects. The origami paper will be used to make origami fortune cookies and Chinese lanterns.
