Stem Morning Tubs

Help me give my students stem bins for morning work! Third graders need to touch, build, and explore to learn! I want to give my students the opportunity to become engineers, rather than another worksheet!

My Project

STEM bins (or STEM tubs) are hands-on, exploratory tools filled with building materials like LEGOs, pipe cleaners, straws, and more. They’re designed to promote creativity, problem-solving, and engineering thinking in young learners. Here are examples of why students need to build and explore through STEM bins:

Foster Creative Thinking

• Example: A student is challenged to build a bridge using only craft sticks and rubber bands. They test different designs and eventually figure out how to create a strong, stable structure.

• Why it matters: This type of unstructured problem-solving builds creativity and encourages students to think outside the box.

• Example: Students must design a tower that can hold a stack of books. They try various supports and foundations, learning from trial and error.

• Why it matters: STEM bins help kids apply basic engineering principles, laying a foundation for future STEM careers.
