Mr. Vega from Brooklyn NY is requesting Lab Equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Student-led project

STEM Medical Explorers

We need science equipment so that we can better explore human body systems while reaching STEM standards. We have requested 3 urinalysis kits.

About My Students

Although many of my students were eager to lead this project, Amina and Nudar have been selected to lead and represent the student body. Our Goal: To increase the amount of science equipment so that we can better achieve STEM standards and be college and career ready!

After our first project was funded, my students were overwhelmed with excitement. They were shocked to know that individual donors took an interest in their education and provided them with such amazing science equipment! I encouraged students to take an active role in generating their own grant proposal on DonorsChoose so that we could possibly receive new science equipment to make STEM research and collaboration more productive.

These resources will allow us to successfully practice science and explore human anatomy and physiology. In particular, this project will help build upon my students’ interest in the medical field. So many of my students have expressed to me that they would like to peruse a medical degree. And the amazing thing is that I can see many of them as doctors! My students need science equipment so that they can better explore human body systems while reaching STEM standards. I have requested 3 urinalysis kits so that students can test normal and abnormal simulated urine specimens and determine probable disorders. Included are tests for color, pH, specific gravity, glucose, and protein.

In Their Own Words

We want to increase the amount of science and technology equipment used in our class so that we can better learn and practice science in a more advanced way. Many of us and our classmates are really interested in biology and the medical field. With these kits, we will be able to do urinalysis and learn how medical professionals perform tests to determine diseases.

After completing the online application, we will set up a safe place in the classroom to store the kits. We will contact the front desk to let them know we are expecting a package and when they come we will carefully unpack and set the kits up. We will read user instructions and safety precautions. We will then work with our classmates to perform urinalysis tests.

By taking part in this project, it will solve the hardships and challenges we face with a lack of resources. The money donated will help us buy the correct science materials so that we can engage in professional science labs and expand our knowledge on health and life science in a fun and advanced way. The project is important to us because it takes our knowledge further so that we can be more prepared for high school, college, and future careers.
