Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special because they are on fire to get their education. We are a goal setting school and the number one goal is to be college bound and ready to go. My students come from all types of backgrounds such as single family home life, parents who work more than one job to make ends meet, or students who live with other family members while parents are living in Mexico to provide a better life for them here.
When I think of my school and neighborhood, I think of family.
I love seeing parents walking their kids to school regardless of age. I see family-owned vendors waiting outside after school for both students and teachers to get after-school snacks. It is a great way to build relationships in the community.
My Project
Please help my students be critical thinkers and the next generation of innovators by reading these magazines. I want to have centers so that I can pull smaller groups to help students who are at risk. The centers would include these STEM math magazines. Students are both reading and practicing critical math skills. These magazines will allow students to "walk the walk and talk the talk." It will allow them to contribute to conversations about disciplinary ideas, to build on others' ideas and have others build on theirs. They will develop the authority over the content and develop positive self images to be thinkers and learners.
