My Students

Wadsworth STEM is a neighborhood school on the south side of Chicago. While we accept all students in our area and many others outside of our attendance area, we try to behave as if we were a magnet school. Our students deserve a school that does not cost them anything to attend and does not require traveling outside of their neighborhood while offering a first class STEM education. Our students are almost entirely from under-served and underrepresented groups but we have high expectations for them! They are bright, curious, and eager to learn. They want to be scientists, computer programmers, and engineers.

My Project

The exposure to different types of careers limits a child's imagination for their future. This STEM library would provide multiple examples at various reading levels of both fictional and factual examples of applied STEM and STEM careers. You can't dream it, if you don't even know it exists. At the same time, my students are at very different reading levels and many lag behind their grade level peers. This STEM library I think will be of high interest and is deliberately selected to meet each student's ability level. Ideally, some will be inspired to reach above their reading comfort level.
