My students are enthusiastic third and fourth grade students. They are excited about learning and growing. At the same time, they are beginning to form their social groups and face many questions as they begin to develop their individual character and interests. They are exploring who they are and who they want to be. My students love school and have a great attitude about learning.
My students are learning to become more independent and to make choices about how and what they learn.
Many of my students don't have access to rich learning environments at home, so it is incredibly important for me to immerse them in learning in exciting ways during the school day.
My Project
Stem+Literacy=Engagement will provide my students with a variety of books such as Balloons Over Broadway, Whoosh, The Marvelous Thing That Came From a Spring, and others to read and explore. While exploring the reading, students will be given a STEM task that corresponds with the literature we cover. Materials such as straw builders, magnets, Make Do connectors, a ZipSnap, string, Slinky, pipe cleaners, and a variety of recyclable materials will be used to assist the students in designing and engineering processes in order to solve the presented STEM task.
Students will work independently and in groups to solve many real-world problems through the use of the STEM/Literacy units.
These STEM/Literacy kits will be used throughout the year and for many years to come!
