STEM Leprechaun Traps

My Students

My school is located off our newly constructed highway. So there are a lot of moving pieces. Many students are in and out due to Fayetteville being a military town. Despite all of the changes being thrown their way, my students are flexible and can adjust to any situation including a new 2nd year teacher(me). Seeing as its the middle of the year after being virtual learners I have to get them excited about common core and STEM.

My Project

Want to see the twinkle in your students' eyes? Give them a tub of STEM items. STEM projects are so amazing, they help grow my students' logical thought process and gets them to focus on problem solving. The best part is that it is great for teamwork. They missed out on many opportunities to collaborate due to the pandemic. Collaboration is a hot topic in my classroom. This project will have many social emotional learning elements. Students learn best when they are happy, loved and heard.

Hearing their different perspectives and strategies will be the icing on the cake for this school year.

On St. Patrick's Day 2022 we will have a fun filled Leprechaun STEM day. As we start the day our classroom will be bursting with excitement as they are wowed by the festive décor. During this fun filled day the students will read stories so that they can get ideas on how they will trap their very own leprechaun. They will also sort Lucky Charms cereal, make graphs, and interpret data. Throughout the day the students will compete in centers while racking up points for treasure prizes. They will be given tubs of material so that they can brainstorm and create blueprints. The fun wont stop there the students will dance the day away during our leprechaun dance battle on a super light up dance mat. Not only will the students fill their kettles up with prizes they will will stimulate their minds as well.

All materials in this project will support social emotional learning in our room. Please help me make this an amazing memory for these Lucky Charms!
