My Students
My students are preschool students who come from diverse backgrounds. I teach two sessions of preschool. Each session is a mix of of typically developing students and those with special needs. I also teach children with English as a second language. Each child comes to me with varying experiences. They need to be motivated and challenged every day. We are a high poverty district in which 78% of the students in the township qualify for free and reduced lunch. I believe all children have potential and can participate in all activities.
My Project
Lego building bricks and a storage table will help my students create and explore STEM concepts in early learning. Engaging my preschool students in quality science at an early age will provide them with more career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) later in life. My students will use these materials to design and build different vehicles for their figurines. They will use cognitive, speech and language, and fine motor skills to accomplish these tasks. This is all done as they interact with their peers and enjoy play time.
These new materials will help students develop critical thinking and cooperative working skills that will help them for the rest of their lives.
While my students are only 3, 4, and 5 years old, I am always looking for new ways to increase the opportunities for high levels of academic learning for them. Early in their education is the time to get them excited about school, learning and STEM. The more they love learning, the greater their chances of success in their education. My job is to continue to create an excitement in and love of learning.
