My Students
Our inner-city students come from various backgrounds, and English is not always their native language. They come to school wanting to learn, and they work hard because school is the safest place for a lot of them. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
When working in the Discovery Lab, it’s about taking the science learning from their classroom, applying creative thinking and design skills to a real world STEAM project where students are encouraged to imagine all the possibilities when their creative thinking meshes with engineering.
Students see how the Engineering & Design process can be used in everyday life throughout our world.
When students enter my lab, excitement builds because they know they have challenges that they need to face like engineers, scientists, and many other creative professionals do in the real world. Students love working with their hands to create something or solve a problem. Our school is a wonderful place to learn because of the environment created by the staff. We show our love of learning with our students.
My Project
Being able to create and build has been something that was challenging throughout the pandemic! Now that the students will be back in the lab this year, I want them to have every opportunity to see how things work. I want them to be able to build and create while working on different STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Concepts. These learning stations will help students problem solve and create solutions while building. Students can work in teams or by themselves to see how gears, roller coasters, and marble runs work! They are able to change up the pieces to make even more STEM learning adventures! Help my students bring these concepts to life!
