My 1st grade students are eager, energetic, enthusiastic and have the privilege of living and learning in a city with the most ethnically diverse neighborhood in our country! Our school has recently celebrated 50 years of teaching and learning and we are now also an official STEM school! Our school is the first elementary STEM school in Anchorage and we are fortunate to have opportunities to integrate science, technology, engineering, and math throughout our day.
Each morning my students walk through the door and are greeted with new opportunities to explore and learn.
My students are enthusiastic learners and, as their teacher, I do my best to foster their learning and provide opportunities to grow as individuals. Each of my students comes from his or her own unique situation and home life and I am fortunate to be able to provide them all with opportunities to learn and grow.
My Project
The STEM games and building kits I am requesting will be a fantastic addition to our STEM classroom. These games and kits will give my students opportunities to work and build independently, with partners, or with groups to engage in fun and enriching STEM activities. The Marble Run kits can help students develop hand-eye coordination, logical thinking, creativity, color and shape recognition, and spatial imagination ability. The Magna-Tiles, the Straws Builders Construction Building kit, the Creative Kids Flakes kit, the IQ Builder kit, and the ThinkFun Gravity Maze Marble Run Logic Game provide opportunities for imaginative free play in children.
Utilizing STEM kits, games, and manipulatives is beneficial to students.
These building sets help develop math, science, spatial and tactile skills. It is a time to enjoy each others company, have fun while learning and reinforcing concepts, and explore STEM ideas from a different perspective.
In addition, my students use iPads for individualized instruction, small group, and whole group instruction. Providing students with headphones will help them to be less distracted by the noises coming from their neighbor's iPad. Using headphones will allow my students to focus on their own tasks.
With all of these wonderful materials, comes the need for storage. The storage bins and the stackable storage tubs with allow for these materials to be stored in an organized fashion. Moreover, materials will be more accessible to my students.
