My Project

I have a diverse group of students in my first-grade class who are unique learners and need multiple ways to practice math skills. They are eager to learn, want to work with peers, and curious about the world around them. I currently have limited options for my students to engage in math stem activities. My students learn best when they have the opportunity to choose from a range of hands-on projects.

Adding a Stem Lab to my classroom will allow my first graders the opportunity to learn how to work collaboratively with peers as they complete math projects.

My students love hands on activities that they can create with their friends. However, working with others is sometimes difficult for them because they have had limited experience working with peers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having access to multiple stem projects will encourage students to engage in these activities with peers.

I choose the following activities to engage my students in stem projects. For example, working with geometric puzzles will encourage them to think creatively about solutions, building different structures using multiple models will activate their critical thinking skills and imagination, and building challenging 3-dimensional puzzles will encourage them to use their logical thinking and problem-solving skills. These projects will allow my students to learn by playing together.
