A typical day in leadership class begins by a student-lead cheer! Students are always looking for creative ways to increase school spirit and pride....and this project, STEM It Up will help take us there!
The students in my leadership classes are energetic and always seeking ways to make school fun.
Some of these students belong to a club on campus or are part of our student government. Our school is located in a rural community with a population of approximately 350 students in grades 9-12. We don't have as many resources as other communities where businesses or charity can easily donate items. 70% of our students receive free or reduced priced meals based on family income.
My Project
Leadership students along with building and construction students will be constructing carnival type games to be used at our quarterly carnivals. My students need PVC elbows and Ts, Plexiglass sheets, rubber mallets, carpet dryer blower, and a water hose to create carnival-type games. Once the materials are received, 5 carnival games will be constructed using STEM skills students have learned in the past or will be learning while working on these projects. The carnival is the culminating activity and a positive reinforcement for students who have worked hard each quarter. Students can earn carnival tickets based on righteous acts completed. These acts could be as simple as wearing their uniform to school or scoring an A on a test.
Imagine students coming to school or working diligently and participating in activities like never before because they know by doing so will earn them tickets to our student created and lead carnivals!
