My students need digital encyclopedias, STEM digital resources, and Microsoft Office so they can use our new class computer lab to do research and publish their writing.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." - Chinese Proverb
Many of my students have computers, but most only use them for playing games. My goal is to teach my students how to use computers as a resource they can use for their entire lives.
My students are really an awesome bunch of kids.
They come from different ethnic, financial, and educational backgrounds. They are motivated to learn and seem especially motivated to learn how to use different forms of technology. They are excited about our new classroom computers and learning how to use them for various purposes. They have seen me use my personal laptop to find resources to supplement our lessons, find and print clip art to use on posters, and do research on topics I am unfamiliar with. They are interested in learning how to use computers so they can also do some of these things.
My Project
We are in the process of getting new computers for our classroom so we will have a mini computer lab. The computers will be used by my students, and other students in third grade, to do research for Science or Social Studies reports, make presentations, publish their writing, and play educational games to supplement their learning.
The copies of Microsoft Office will be installed on our new computers so that students will have a variety of tools to use for reports and presentations.
I am asking for the "unlimited use" copies of the digital encyclopedias and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) digital books so that I can not only install them on our new classroom computers, but also share them with the rest of the teachers at my school since the "unlimited use" copies are allowed to be installed on all of the computers within the school. Our school desperately needs this type of resource.
Microsoft Office will help my students become familiar with programs like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel that they may use in their future classes and life in general.
The digital encyclopedias and digital STEM resources will actually be available to all students in the school and are a desperately needed resource. Students will be able to access these resources in their classrooms instead of just in the library.
