This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 145 amazing Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade girls on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Many of our students are English language learners and children with special needs. Most qualify for free and reduced price lunch. All of my students are creative, thoughtful, and eager learners, and much of their scientific knowledge this year will come from inquiry and research. It has been so exciting to see them fully engaged, each day, as they learn through collaboration and exploration with their peers.
My Project
Students love learning with iPads as they gain access to empowering skills at their own pace.
Research has shown that students saw learning gains after as little as 20 minutes of study on an iPad and if supported with guidance from a teacher, their improvement may have been even more pronounced.
In our science class we will utilize iPads during labs, independent and small group work. Our girls will have greater access to STEM content, by being able to work on simulation labs that help to demonstrate difficult to quantify concepts such as space and time. Students in my classroom feel very comfortable with technology and I would love to give them the opportunity to excel using the tools they know best. Thank you very much for your help!
