This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a low socioeconomic area. 100% of my students receive a free lunch. They come from multiethnic, multicultural, and multilingual homes.

Our school is the heart of our community.

This past year has been a very difficult year on all students. My students were eager to return to the classroom. They missed seeing and talking to classmates. They did their best in distance learning, but it just wasn’t the same.

Now it is time to renew. We are back at school and ready to get to work.

My Project

A recurring theme in Transitional Kindergarten in science is the study of living things. One of the great lessons for young minds is to learn about how plants grow. Children are motivated by growing their own veggies. In addition to having a raised garden, I am asking for a water pump to keep interest in watering the garden as well as promoting curiosity of how things work. The student turns a handle to pump water up through a spout. They will fill a container to transfer water to the garden to water the plants.

I will plan to have the students design the garden, get the soil ready, plant the seeds, keep observation records to monitor growth, learn about weeds and pests, and water the garden daily.
