My students need a MacBook Air in order to create technology-enhanced projects in English class, to incorporate science and technology across the curriculum!
STEM in English?! YES! Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and literacy skills are all intertwined! English is the base skill students need to access the exciting future-ready worlds of science and technology. Integrating STEM into English is essential for creating relevance and interest.
My students are a diverse group of learners from the ages of 11-14.
They love technology, and they are excited about the future careers they have learned about in our readings. They know that the skills STEM teaches are essential to their futures, and that English, reading and writing, are essential to STEM.
My Project
My students will use this MacBook Air for project-based learning that incorporates STEM and English seamlessly. Through choice projects like RAFTs, students can choose to express their understanding of literature through robotics, video game creation, website building, blogging, and more tech-based forms of expression. STEM is not only for science! A good English program teaches literacy skills through multiple dimensions and curriculum models. Making the connection between literacy and the sciences is important for students' future educational goals and careers.
With the donation of this MacBook Air, my students will be more engaged in their learning.
Students will be able to learn with all of their senses (sensory learning), improve socialization, have opportunities to innovate, and increase rigor within the classroom. Most importantly, this project would help create 21st century learners who are ready for the real world.
