Our school will be the first nontitle elementary school in Northern Nevada to become a STEM school. We were awarded the STEM Leaders Academy Grant but as a nontitle school, we struggle to fund the supplies required for STEM lessons. All 350 students, K - 5th grade, at Huffaker engage daily in STEM lessons. It is our goal to increase curiosity and exploration around a phenomena in their world. We are creating individuals that question their world, seek to find solutions and show tenacity as an important skill in seeking an answer. We ask our students what problem they want to solve rather than what they want to do when they grow up.
Our students enthusiastically engage in high interest level STEM lessons and the staff enjoys observing student engagement and excitement while exploring a phenomena related to their world.
This will drive future jobs and careers for our students.
My Project
All our students are learning to explore their world through STEM lessons. The excitement to share with families all they have learned motivates our students to continue to engage in STEM lessons. The development of technology skills used as tools to drive instruction and support proficient communication and advanced problem solving is an important aspect of STEM implementation. Having a printer in color to display student learning in our STEM display case will allow students to share their knowledge and continue the love of learning about their world.
Products displayed in color spark a desire to continue exploring a phenomenon that might not otherwise be explored.
It is important for our school to have a resource for students to share with other students and their families all they have learned throughout the year.
