I teach second grade in a low-income, high poverty school district. Our students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. There are many demands emotionally and academically.
Our students are champions each day when it comes to overcoming these obstacles.
My kids are hands-on learners who love to explore the world around them and help each other. They work hard each day to do their best in reading, writing, and math. They are the most loving kids around.
My Project
This school year will be stressful for everyone from staff to students. As adults we have our ways to relax and reset our emotions and stress levels. Second graders are just learning how to navigate the "normal" world much less a pandemic. As teachers it is important to help kids develop these skills.
STEM is a great way to develop creativity, emotional regulation, fine motor and problem solving skills.
I am planning to have bins of hands on activities that will meet these skills. The construction free building sets in various colors will show their imagination. The sticky building kits will help them develop problem solving skills.
