STEM in 3D

My students need to be able to plan and design their ideas using 3D (Pen) models before using more expensive materials construct their final designs.

My Students

My students are very diverse in languages, cultures, beliefs and personal strengths, as more than half of them have come from all over the world. However, nearly 80% are free or reduced lunch in this SeaTac, WA school.

The challenges many of my students face in-and-out of school make it difficult for them to find their purpose at school.

In engineering designs, my students are doing hands-on, real world projects that are rigorous and relevant. Let education push past poverty.

My Project

Construction paper, index cards, cardboard and popsicle sticks are our current materials used for making mock-ups of our STEM projects. These materials also require adhesives, dry-time, cutting utensils (from scissors to box cutters) and pencils in order to create a model of our project.

We feel limited and sometimes frustrated in the 3D models we can create in one class period making a project take longer than necessary, which can take the focus away from the learning target.

3D doodle pens will give students an opportunity to construct as they go, without time and tool constraints (this project contains enough pens for each group of students to use one without needing to share with other groups).
