Help me give my students STEM supplies, headphones for listening projects, and holiday-related items to use as examples for our upcoming unit on diversity.
In my ELA class, I see four groups of students each day. We read and write, participate in collaborative discussions about what we learned, and incorporate technology into our lessons so that we can practice and demonstrate our understanding in many ways. I also see a small group of students who need intervention support in the area of ELA, so in some cases, my students visit me twice a day.
My students are hard-working fifth graders who come to school eager and ready to learn each day.
In our short hour together, I'm often amazed at how much we can get done! Between sharing our reading homework to learning a new language skill, writing a story or literary response to increasing our vocabulary, we are always learning!
My Project
When students are engaged in a STEM project, the last thing they want is to be missing the supply item that will make or break their plans. By adding these STEM supplies to our classroom collection, students will be able to have quick access to things like glue and tape measures, allowing them to create and design even better projects! For example, they can use the tape measures to determine the distance their pumpkin flies during our Punkin Chunkin unit, and they can use hot glue guns while creating 3D projects during Charlotte's Web.
By having items in class representing various holidays and traditions, students who aren't familiar with them can have visual examples to allow them to understand better.
This will really bring our upcoming nonfiction reading unit on diversity to life! It focuses on different holidays and traditions celebrated around the world. For example, students will be able to see what a menorah is and be able to play a game with dreidels to understand better about how people celebrate Hanukkah.
