STEM Head Start Leaning Fun

My students need an IPad to increase their exposure and use of technology. This year we will incorporate STEM activities and my students will use bristle blocks, magnet tiles and gears to build, and solve problems.

My Students

My students come from a low socio-economic background and have various needs. Many of my students lack sufficient social skills, communication skills and availability to technology. Some of these students struggle with basic skills, such as, knowing how to play with another child, sharing, and how to use their words to communicate there wants and needs. Due to economic hard ships they have limited access to technology and are at a disadvantage compared to other peers of their age. By providing an IPad to our class they will have the opportunity to discover new things and use technology available to others. By enhancing our classroom with new materials to increase engagement and hands on learning activities. STEM activities are crucial at this age to development. My students will use these materials to work together in groups with a shared goal and participate in cooperative teams. They often come to school with limited vocabulary and underdeveloped cognitive skills. By using building toys like these gears, magnet tiles and bristle blocks, they can use hand eye coordination and work in small groups to plan, build, and develop more social skills and cognitive abilities.

My Project

Using an iPad to create digital designs and use apps that are interactive my students will gain real world experience. By donating to this project you will fund students who may otherwise not use STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) at this level. By providing them with a variety of sensory building materials such as gears, bristle blocks and magnet tiles we will research buildings and then break into small groups to build a variety of structures. Students will work together learning participation, sharing, verbalizatoon of ideas, and then measure and compare their creations. Having access to these learning tools will increase their cooperation and participation in our school learning environment.
