My Students

My classroom supports children with severe special needs. This includes children with severe developmental delays., visual impairments, Down syndrome, and Autism These children are indeed special and need a variety of additional supports. Each year sees more and more children entering preschool with Autism. Early intervention helps children with severe developmental delays achieve the best outcomes later in life.

My Project

Our students will face many missed opportunities to explore “STEM” particularly science and technology later on in life due to often mistaken assumptions about their learning capacity. Student’s with learning disabilities are often taken out of class to receive other services while their peers engage in STEM activities. Research shows engaging in STEM activities supports gains in other content learning. It is vital children with disabilities participate. The benefits of early childhood exposure to STEM is well documented. STEM habits of mind - such as persistent, critical thinking, and experimentation are important skills for ALL to gain.
