STEM Grows Here: Hydroponic Engineering for Young Scientists
Help me give my students hydroponic supplies to cultivate a thriving, sustainable classroom garden that inspires hands-on learning and nurtures a deeper understanding of science, nutrition, and environmental stewardship.

My Project
Help me provide my Deaf and Hard of Hearing students with additional hydroponic supplies to grow our sustainable classroom garden and deepen their understanding of STEM through hands-on learning.
My students live in an urban environment where access to green space is limited.
Hydroponics offers an exciting and practical solution—allowing us to grow plants indoors, without soil, while exploring real-world applications of science, engineering, and environmental sustainability.
Thanks to previous donations, we already have a Gardyn Home system and two AeroGardens that have transformed our classroom into a living lab. Students monitor water levels, adjust lighting, and collect growth data. They’re learning biology, engineering design, and environmental science in ways that are visual, interactive, and meaningful—especially important for Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners, who benefit greatly from hands-on, visual instruction.
Many of my students enter school with language delays due to limited early access to spoken or signed language. Hydroponic gardening supports not only academic development but also vocabulary acquisition, critical thinking, and communication skills.
With your support, we can expand our hydroponic system to include more students and new learning opportunities. Additional supplies will allow us to experiment with nutrient ratios, test system efficiency, and explore engineering modifications—further connecting classroom learning to real-world STEM challenges.
This project will help my students grow fresh food—and their future—as confident, curious, and capable young scientists.
