STEM: Getting Students Ready for Jobs in the 21st Century!
My students need STEM engagement kits and a STEM careers book set so they can build, create, explore, and learn about careers they may be interested in when they grow up.
My students are smart, curious, fun-loving, creative, hardworking, helpful, and kind. My 22 students represent countries all over the world, as well as learning levels from Kindergarten to fifth grade. Some of my students need daily intervention while others need daily enrichment. My school consists of about 1,000 students of diverse backgrounds and diverse learning abilities. We have a growing population of ELL students and students for which we implement interventions in reading and math, as well as students needing enrichment to acquire success for their educational needs. Our school does not receive Title I funding; therefore, the technology that we have in our classroom is limited and has to be funded through other means. Our school has an amazing administration and staff who are dedicated to meet each of these diverse needs. The environment of our school is warm, nurturing, and respectful.
My Project
My students need Lakeshore STEM bundles and books about STEM Careers that will provide us a way to integrate STEM into our curriculum and at the same time allow them to explore important concepts hands on! Students will use task cards in the STEM kits to help expand their science and problem solving abilities. They will be using creativity as well as prior knowledge in their exploration. Students will be able to work with their classmates to solve problems and will realize that there may be many different ways to problems. Students will also be able to show what they are learning to their families when they take home kits from the Family Engagement STEM pack.
Using the STEM kits, students will learn about coding, making blueprints, building roads and houses, designing board games, and more!
These tasks will help students understand real world challenges, and they will help the kids see the importance of problem solving and team work. Students will read about possible STEM careers that are available. This will further students' education and knowledge in the world of STEM and prepare them in their academic career as critical thinkers and investigators. Science Technology Engineering and Math are the keys to the future, and you have a chance to put those keys into the hands of the future now!
