This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are exploring the world of STEM and the many different areas of studies. This year my students are being introduced to horticulture. They are learning about indoor and outdoor plants. How plants help the environment, and the different jobs around the world that are available to people knowledgeable about planting.
In early March, the students will plant their bamboo, herbs, and flower seeds indoors using the peat pots.
Using the various fertilizers and soil packs, they will create their own soil mixtures based on the recommendations from the various books. Once they plant their seeds, they will keep a journel on the growth, water needed, and complications of growth. Next, we will take our seedlings and plant in a planned area in the schools front and side yards creating a community garden for all to enjoy. The hydroponic gardens will allow us to create experiments on plant growth in water vs. soil. The data will be used to create a graph that they students will use to help guide their final analysis.
These supplies will help us create a garden that will be enjoyed for years to come.
