My Students

My students are hardworking, sweet, and some of the most vulnerable learners in our district. They are curious about the world around them but often times do not get the opportunity to learn things that happen outside of our community. Our students identify as 50% African American, 28% Asian, 12% Latino, 8% White, and 2% American Indian. 92% of our families qualify for free and reduced price lunch and 6% of our families suffer from chronic homelessness. But even with all these odds stacked against our students, they are resilient and continuously amaze me in how eager they are to learn. They are inquisitive and great problem solvers. They inspire me every day with how much they want to learn and what they are so curious about. I as their teacher want to be able to provide all I can in educating them and guiding them into finding answers to their own questions to create lifelong learners.

My Project

Our classroom is in need of materials that help us explore the wide world of science, technology, engineering, and math. In our building only 9.6% of our students meet MCA math benchmarks in 3rd grade and only 7.4% of our 3rd graders meet grade level standards for science. With these materials, my students will be able to have a year round math center, engineering center,and science center they can access in our classroom during our active play time where they can dive deeper into STEM work. These materials will be used for exploring life cycles, learning how to observe as scientists with our microscope, as well as learning how to critically think by creating houses, bridges, and more with our multiple building kits.
