Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with Academically/Intelligently Gifted students, ranging in age from 4th grade to 8th grade. These students are highly motivated and have an innate desire to think outside of the box and to be challenged.
Sadly, many students in our district are unable to receive the challenging activities and opportunities they most desire.
My students live in a rural community and do not have the benefit of unlimited resources or even basic ones.
This group of students deserves the opportunity to work with rigorous materials that engage them and keep them coming back for more!
My Project
My kids love hands-on activities that are rigorous and fun. These STEM resources will give my AIG students the opportunity to connect to learning and participate in stimulating activities they do not have access to in other classes. This project will fund a Robotics Building System to allow my students a chance to understand how basic robotics work. It also includes a large Maker Kit, which allows my students to build an array of things I challenge them to create. Finally, it will purchase STEM Explorations Kits so they can build a roller coaster and a swing ride and learn about force and motion in an interesting and unexpected way! STEM activities give students the opportunity to learn with real-world activities that challenge them and force them to think creatively and out of the box. These materials will make a huge impact on student engagement and participation and show my kids that Science and Math can be fun! These hands-on kits will make my students eager and excited to come to class and learn!
