STEM for Student Learning

Help me give my students three HP laptops, two electric fans for when our air conditioning breaks down and books with an assortment of STEM activities to be used at school and home.

My Students

Our students are ready and willing to take on the challenges of a 21st century education. They have many diverse styles of learning and need exposure to 21st century learning resources. They need to collaborate with their peers and lead by example.

We are 95% African-American, 2% Haitian-American, 2% Hispanic and 1% Caucasian with 97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.

Our school is located in the inner city of Miami, Florida. Although our students are faced with many socio-economic challenges, they seek a high quality education to become productive citizens.

My Project

These laptops will be utilized within families that as a limited amount of technology to assist with students learning. It will be shared among three families to aid with their children’s’ education. The laptops will be available to households of three or more girls. Younger kids will use the computer for an assortment of learning such as iReady, Waterford, ABC Mouse, Starfall, Code.org. Older sisters would use the computer for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Edgenuity, Florida Students, and Study Jams. In addition, the students will utilize the laptop to conduct research-based projects. Projects will focus on famous women in STEM fields such as Mamta Patel Nagaraja, Caterina Fake, and one of my favorite Marjory Stoneman Douglas.

The fans are needed to cool off classrooms when our air conditioning breaks down in the hot Miami and muggy weather.

The books will be shared among 3rd-5th grade classes. The STEM activities booklet will be shared among students in the class. The experiments are aligned to grade-level content and will allow the students to explore and learn about science with fun and engaging lesson for all ages. The experiment can be done in school and at home (virtually).
