This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title I School, and almost 70% receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast. They attend a magnet school which requires most students to maintain a B average throughout the year. The students are part of Pre-Med, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Computer Technology programs.
Our students come from the diverse backgrounds of 30 different countries.
This makes our school pretty special in so many ways. The students all work so hard and are very deserving of this project.
My Project
So many times I see my girls get bored in Science and Math class because so many activities are boy oriented so why not get them involved in a GIRLS ONLY Science Club. My goal is to show them that all these activities can be interesting for them. From using legos to build amazing projects to using building kits to build their own girl city. This incorporates so many skills and classes like science, math, and engineering. We will do activities where they race cars, drones and boats to measure velocity and speed. The activity will have us comparing them over time and distance. We will make girly slime that they can share with their families and friends. This teachers them about matter in a hands on way. My goal is to take the robots like the R2-D2 and the Sohero and teach them how to code. They will learn the basics and we will build on that skill from there. They will use the art supplies to make their presentations on STEM come to life.
