By the end of the year gifted students will gain a wealth of knowledge in science, math, & literacy; improve critical thinking and find an interest in an area of STEM. The biggest challenge for maximizing their potential is funding for STEM enrichment through technology and hands on activities.
I teach kindergarten through 5th grade Gifted Education in Orlando, FL.
Our students are creative, hard-working, crave the ability to be challenged to think outside of the box in all areas of their academics and personal life. As a result, myself and their classroom teacher must be consistent in sustaining a high level of achievement while challenging them academically.
Students would have the opportunity to utilize the K'NEX and Robotic equipment to apply scientific concepts learned as a means of exploring multi-faceted science concepts such as aeronautics, Newton's Laws, engineering, and mathematics in a hands-on manner. We also need storage crates for our materials. Students will further research interesting topics learned in and work collaboratively to create a research report using iMovie, photograph the hands on engineering or science labs, and develop a presentation. Students will learn to think collaboratively, as well as deepen their critical thinking; specifically in areas of STEM.
The donations for this project will improve my ability to give gifted students access to a more rigorous gifted curriculum.
Students will increase their use of science, technology, engineering, and math in a multi-faceted approach. Our students will find benefit in increased performance on test scores, behavior, academic engagement, leadership, critical thinking, and potentially ignite their interest in a future career in STEM. This program will ensure students interest and potential are met.
