My students are ages 2-5 and all exhibit developmental delays that require special education services. Most of my students exhibit communication delays and need help to understand and use verbal language and produce speech sounds more clearly. I work with students and their families in their homes, daycares, Head Start classes, or community preschools. They thrive and make the most progress via hands-on activities including board games, puzzles, crafts, and storybooks. I am always looking for these items and would love for any help to replace some older/broken ones.
My Project
These hands-on STEM materials will develop fine motor, cognitive, and communication skills during home visits. They are engaging with bright colors and big pieces for their small hands to manipulate. Building a custom design with each use will be motivating and stimulating for their limited focus at their age. Plus, the different sets will coordinate with my thematic units. I would love to use these gear sets to meet my students’ IEP goals in a fun, creative manner. They will be fairly easy to transport in my big bag of toys when I visit students in their homes, daycares, or community preschools. They seem to be fairly easy to clean between each use, too, which is a big plus for a preschool teacher!
