STEM Explorers: Modeling Earth’s Spheres and Shaping Our Planet
Help me give my students use these materials to create visual representations of their science units as 5th graders such as interactions between earth systems (jars, seeds, rocks) and weathering and erosion (clay and clay tools).

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are creative, resilient, and eager to learn, even while facing significant challenges. Most of them are English Language Learners from low-income families, and our school’s focus on art integration allows us to reach them in unique, meaningful ways.
The materials I’m requesting—ecosystem jars, fast-growing seeds, air-dry clay, and clay tools—will make a huge difference for my students.
By building mini-ecosystems, they will observe how the Earth’s spheres interact, and by sculpting with clay, they’ll model weathering and erosion. These hands-on STEM projects will help bring complex science concepts to life, making learning accessible regardless of language proficiency.
My goals are to spark students’ curiosity about Earth science, build their observation and problem-solving skills, and empower them to express their ideas through art and science. These activities will encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity—while also making science fun and memorable.
My students may face many obstacles, but they are kind, hardworking, and always ready to try something new. With your support, I can give them the opportunity to learn by doing, build their confidence, and help them discover the scientist and artist within themselves.
