STEM Explorers: Harnessing the Sun, Weather, and Wind!

Help me give my students supplies for their STEM science projects for this coming school year!

My Project

My students are curious, hands-on learners who love exploring how science connects with the real world. This year, we're diving into three exciting STEM projects that will challenge them to think like engineers, meteorologists, and environmental scientists.

With your help, we’ll build solar ovens to harness the sun’s energy, create cloud models to understand weather patterns, and design hurricane-proof houses to simulate storm-resistant architecture.

These projects aren’t just fun — they build critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork skills that students will carry with them for life.

I teach a diverse group of hardworking students who thrive with hands-on learning. Many of them have limited access to STEM materials outside the classroom, and they light up when given the chance to build, test, and explore new ideas.

These projects will give them the opportunity to experiment like real scientists and engineers while learning about sustainable energy, extreme weather, and the power of design.

Solar Ovens – Students will design and build their own solar cookers to explore renewable energy and the greenhouse effect.

Requested supplies: pizza boxes, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, black construction paper, thermometers.

Cloud Models – To understand how clouds form and predict weather, students will create models using simple materials.

Requested supplies: clear plastic cups, shaving cream, food coloring, droppers, and weather journals.

Hurricane Houses – Students will build and test model houses to withstand simulated hurricane winds.

Requested supplies: craft sticks, glue, mini fans, foam board, modeling clay, and testing trays.

With your generous support, students will learn through doing — discovering how the sun can cook food, how clouds bring rain, and how design can protect buildings from storms. These projects will spark their interest in science, support critical standards, and maybe even inspire future careers in STEM.

Thank you for helping my students!
