My students need STEM materials to help build capacity for exploration and problem solving. Coding is becoming more and more prevalent in the world of technology. Help our class prepare to take on the future!
My classroom is a home away from home to anywhere between 16-24 1st grade students. We are an ESL and Special Education Inclusion classroom serving the needs of a wide range of students. My students come to me with a wide range of strengths and areas of need including Gifted and Talented, attention difficulties, Autism, and difficult home lives. Despite the wide range of strengths in our classroom, our students learn and begin to take ownership of their classroom. They become a community of learners.
I foster and emphasize a classroom where student strengths are highlighted, learning strategies are celebrated, and collaboration is integral to the learning of all students.
Students work together to push themselves and each other to discover and grow together.
As more refugees come to Austin, our classroom has become even more diverse. Due to our community of learning, my students embraced learning basic interpersonal vocabulary in Arabic, Swahili, and even learned to sign to support a deaf student! I couldn't be more proud of them!
My students deserve the opportunity to explore with technology and coding in the classroom! Coding and STEM exploration tools help our students build the capacity to problem solve and think more deeply about their learning!
Students at our school are almost all from low-income homes who receive free and reduced lunch benefits.
They often don't get to have the same enrichment experiences as their peers from higher-income areas. As a Title 1 school, we do not have the funding for extra technology and tools like STEM and coding robots. Your donation will bring these amazing opportunities to their eager hands!
