Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Our class serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
Teachers are raving about how their students love experimenting, exploring, creating and collaborating with LEGOs.
Our class doesn’t get any money from the system or the school for purchasing items for the classroom. We would like to start using the STEM tools to continue teaching important skills every student needs to learn in school.
My Project
These tools will be used during downtime in the classroom. These tools will help build social skills such as sharing and collaborating with others. Students in this class need to learn appropriate social skills like sharing, talking to peers and taking turns.
These STEM tools will help my students have opportunities for creative, hands-on learning.
The skills will help better their future. The LEGOs, K'nex, and magnetic blocks will give students now and students in the future the chance to share their creativity and build their love of learning in my classroom. Students need these hands-on experiences that will promote their creativity and curiosity, which in turn develops a love for learning engineering and mathematics.
